2901161600 is an Atlas Copco OEM thermostatic valve kit that opens at 40 degrees C. This is most commonly used on many versions of the Atlas Copco GX7 and GX11 rotary screw air compressors. It is recommended to replace the thermal valve every two years or 8,000 hours of operation to prevent your compressor from overheating.

This 2901161600 thermal valve kit is also commonly shown as 2901 1616 00 or 2901-1616-00. 

The previous part number for this item was 2901 0068 00 which now supersedes to this item. If your parts manual states to use item#2901 0068 00, then purchasing this thermal valve kit is correct. 

There were several different thermal valve kits used on the GX series of air compressors, including the models listed above. We highly recommend contacting us with your serial number to confirm this is correct for your air compressor.

A compressor thermal valve opens when the oil gets hot to let coolant/oil flow through the cooler before the oil is sent back into the sump tank. This prevents the compressor from overheating. If your compressor is consistently shutting down on high temp and your oil is full, more than likely this valve needs to be replaced.
