Portland Compressor has an immediate opening in our retail store in SE Portland for a cashier. The cashier processes payments from customers for orders created by associates in several departments. When not processing payments the cashier; answers phones and transfers to the proper department or person.

Responsibilities include but not limited to the following

Job Responsibilities:

• Accurately process payments from our customers for orders created by various departments
  • Accurately process credit cards
  • Accurately process checks
  • Accurately process cash and make change
  • Accurately process terms orders
  • Issue receipts in a timely manner
• Answer incoming calls when not processing payments
  • Direct calls to proper department and/or person
  • Direct calls to voicemail
  • Answer general questions such as hours and address
• Greet customers in a friendly manner
• Answer customer's questions or direct them to some one who can
• Some stocking and performing general housekeeping duties during slow times
• Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned

Experience Required

• Accuracy, attention to detail
• Good phone skills
• Good computer competency
  • Data entry - typing, 10-key
  • Microsoft Office Applications
  • Ability to learn new software
• Ability to communicate in a courteous professional and tactful manner
• Ability to handle multiple tasks
• Be punctual, on-time

Other Preferred Experience

• Previous cashier, cash handling experience
• Previous phone experience
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Knowledge of SAP Business One is a plus
• Internet savvy

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of standing
• Some lifting

Qualification Requirements

• Speak fluent English
• Read, interpret and write in English
• Basic math skills

A qualified applicant will be a trustworthy self-starter with good self-management skills with little need for supervision once trained.  Integrity and accountability are a must.
