The Ingersoll Rand 39441944 thermal valve actuator opens to allow oil to flow through the cooler when the temperature is above 170F. This prevents the compressor from overheating. This valve was commonly used on the 20-30HP Ingersoll Rand rotary screw compressors that start with serial number JX and we're manufactured in late 1990s/early 2000s

Typically if your compressor is shutting down on a high temperature, the thermal valve needs to be replaced. It's common for this valve to be replaced every 2-3 years depending on run hours and operating conditions.
