This is an Eaton / Cutler Hammer A27 single phase definite purpose magnet motor starter with built in contactor and overload relay.

This is manufactured by Eaton / Cutler Hammer. The A27CGD25C016 is specifically used on 7.5hp and 10hp air compressors that are running on 460/3/60hz power. The overload is adjustable between 10 and 16 amps. This was specifically paired with several Chicago Pneumatic and Quincy air compressors, as well as piston compressors from NAPA, BelAir, and Atlas Copco. This part may be shown in your parts book as 1312-1012-77 or 1312 1012 77. This is the same as Campbell Hausfeld part number ST122008AJ.

Featuring components that meet IEC design and UL horsepower ratings and design standards, Eaton mag starters are UL Recognized and use CSA Certified contactors. No internal starter heaters are required. Eaton single phase magnetic starters are shrouded or use finger proof terminals to reduce the possibility of electric shock.

Three phase motor starters provide overload protection to electric compressor motors. This is similar to a surge protector for your compressor – a motor starter adsorbs the incoming power before it is sent into your electric motor. This helps to prevent costly damage to the windings from over-currents and temperature increases. A magnetic starter is required for all three phase compressors and any single phase application where there is no overload protection for the motor. Eaton A27 starters are pre-wired from the factory.
